MISSIONS BEYOND THE BEYOND
SUMMER UPDATE

Good morning friends and partners,

Thank you so much for being partners with Missions Beyond. This year has been an exciting time.

We have seen the completion of a school building project in Barranca.  Electricians installed needed wiring to provide electricity to the school office, classrooms and computer learning center. Classrooms received paint and ceiling fans with lights, creating a more pleasurable environment for learning.  A computer learning center houses desk top computers with a printer and wifi connection.  Not only is the school using this center, the Bible School and surrounding community is benefitting as well.

A church in Constanza, now has a roof, windows, and doors.  A church parsonage has a new non leaking roof and living room furniture.

Eight schools, totaling over 600 students, received wrapped gifts for the first time.  Some children didn’t even know how to unwrap the gift, others gave care to unwrapping, and a few ripped them open because they couldn’t contain their curiosity.  Smiles and laughter filled the school as children expressed their joy and gratitude for the gifts you helped provide.

Here in the States, Missions Beyond has been helping families that need help with food until the next paycheck.  Young women have been able to find office wear for a new employment opportunity.  Warmth offered during the cold months through coats, sweatshirts, jackets, and boots.  A family received a gas card so they could travel to the hospital to with their family member as they recovered from surgical procedure.  School children will receive a book a month during the school year.

You helped make this happen.  Thank you.  May you be rewarded for your generosity and faithfulness.
Missions Beyond’s Board WANTS TO SHARE about an amazing opportunity on the horizon to expand the work and ministry of Missions Beyond the Beyond stateside.

In the months we have been visiting with people, churches, and organizations that are seeing a need to reach those who will not walk through the traditional church doors to connect with God and others.  Property has become available that would allow Missions Beyond to establish a Mission House Community Action Outreach. The property is located near the town square of a small rural community.

In talking with pastors and leaders in the area, interest has been expressed in helping/partnering with Missions Beyond to establish a center that would reach out to the unseen and unchurched of the community.  To offer a hand up, to help these people in our community, showing Christ's love in tangible ways.

The unseen is the child who often is left alone as parents pursue their addiction.  Single Moms working more than one job to make ends meet and care for her children. The single female who lives alone, who feels unseen and alone struggling to stand strong on her own. The worker who is between paychecks or starting a new job, needing food for his family.  The widow/widower that is existing on his pension check and it isn't enough to pay the utilities, their medical expenses, prescriptions, and buy food or fuel for their vehicle. The family that lost income due to a tragedy or accident and just need a little help

The unchurched as those who may have never attended church, don’t attend because of church hurt, or attend once every three months that family church because that is where you must go if you go to church. As we view our community, we also see that we have a foreign mission field here. There is a huge foreign population in our area of Holt and Buchanan counties, coming from the countries of Cuba, Guatemala, El Salvador, Africa, and many other places. We would like to offer a community outreach center for those that need a hand up, develop relationships that lead to church attendance and involvement

We have many of these helps already in place, we simply need a larger space where we can store food items and other household goods, house an upscale clothing closet, and sit down with those who need help and offer a listening ear and helping hand.  Sharing Christ’s love over a cup of coffee or tea, talking about life struggles and encourage those who are feeling discouraged and overwhelmed.

Within the next months we would like to find/purchase such a place to house the Mission House outreach. We hope to establish a Saturday evening Bible Study (church plant) where food is served and we sit and talk about life, study the Word together, sing and laugh together, ending with prayer. Forming a 'family' for those who feel unseen, unnoticed, unloved, and unwanted.  Church won't look the way it did in the past, it will be sitting around a table, sharing life and being connected to God and to others.

Within five years, we hope and believe that Mission House will become an established life center in our community.

You may be wondering how can I help?  We need prayer partners, volunteers, laborers or short-term mission teams.  People willing to come, help make repairs, set up, and prepare the place for use.  We will announce food donation drives.  We will invite church groups to come and help on Saturday evenings.  And yes, we need a few more monthly financial supporters to help Mission House develop and move into a self-sustaining life center.
Many of you are faithful partners and we couldn’t do what is being done wit out your help.  Some of you have thought about helping, yet haven’t taken the step, because you might only be able to pledge $5 a month.  $5 can help buy grocery items, paper products, coffee.  No pledge is too small to make a ripple effect.  As a 501(c) 3 Humanitarian effort recognized by both the Federal and State, Missions Beyond is able to offer donation acknowledgment letters to individuals and businesses.

Thank you for your contributions and prayers. Maybe you could help enlist volunteers and spread the word about Mission House Life Center!  Feel free to forward this email.

MISSIONS BEYOND WINTER NEWSLETTER 2018

Good evening,

What a storm we had here this past Sunday.  Around 1:00pm through 7:00am the next morning, we were snowed in at our farmhouse here in Oregon, Missouri.  The winds were blowing so hard that the snow was stinging our face and eyes.  It sure put us in the Christmas mood even though we have had Christmas on our minds since July.  Yes, it is true.  Christmas season starts for Missions Beyond in July.  We begin planning, preparing, traveling to churches and visiting organizations raising awareness for our Christmas in a Box outreach. We are days away from a small team traveling to the Dominican Republic to deliver shoeboxes and gifts to over 400 students in 12 Haitian schools.

During our time in the Dominican Republic we will be traveling to all 12 school locations and visiting churches.  Missions Beyond will partner with a Dominican church on a building project.  The team will travel to the church that is in need of a roof and windows to complete their building project.  If all goes well, this church will have a roof and windows, and begin meeting in their new church building come February.  We also are excited that a 'dream' for a school will become a reality.  A donor has partnered with Missions Beyond to provide the first computer teaching lab for our Haitian Schools.  The pastor spoke with our representative and said it had been a dream of his for over ten years.  This school teaches children in the morning and trains pastoral candidates in the afternoons.  The computer lab will become a community teaching facility where both Haitians and Dominicans will learn how to use computers.  This first lab should be completed winter break and before school resumes in January.  Can you imagine the look on those students faces?
You have been in prayer with us about property for our Cutupu school.  The school has grown so much in the past two years that it has outgrown the rented facility and has overflowed under tarps outside in the grassy area.  Funding has come through for the property and to begin the work on a school building.  This school will be the second school to have a computer lab.  The architect is revising the blueprints to include a computer room for this school.  It is wonderful that the children will no longer have to be concerned about classes being cancelled due to rain and rain soddened tarps dripping water on their notebooks.
We recently shared the news on Facebook that we have a recognized BGMC Project number for our Haitian Schools.  This means that children in our supporting churches can also have an opportunity to give directly to our Haitian Schools outreach.  These offerings can help provide desks, chairs, tables, chalkboards, books, teaching tools, water coolers, bathrooms, musical instruments, sewing machines and computers for our Haitian Schools.  We would enjoy the opportunity to come and talk with your children about BGMC, complete with a slide show presentation of how BGMC funds are providing a better classroom environment for our students.  We have attached a form below with our project number noted that will need to be sent forward with the BGMC offerings.

Last year we had 10 school locations with enrollment of around 300 students.  This year, there are 14 school locations with over 600 students enrolled.  The tent stakes have been moved out, our territory is enlarging.  We couldn't do this without the faithful support of our Missions Beyond partners.  We are grateful for all you do to help make a difference in these students lives and their world.

Blessings,

Would you consider partnering with Missions Beyond to help this School?

Missions Beyond recently received an invitation to tour a school in our neighborhood.  There are approximately 130 to 150 Haitian students at this school.  Once our tour was completed we met with the founder and administrator of the school. An invitation has been extended to partner with this school.  One of the founding partners passed away this last fall and the school council is prayerfully asking for help. The founder and administrator asked if Missions Beyond would help this school.

Should Missions Beyond partner with this school, it would mean a budget increase of $1200 a month to pay administrator, teachers, buy supplies, and maintain the facility.   The school has use of the facility building and grounds at no charge, but must maintain and handle repairs, and pay utilities. Missions Beyond would partner with the widow, her financial partners, and the students' parents.

To do this we need people partnering with Missions Beyond to make it happen.  The goal is to educate, help prepare students for testing, get legal documents of residency, and get students into public school so they can then attend the university (college). This offers a hand up, allowing the students to have hope and a future. To stand on their own and provide for a family. These students do receive with their education, a Biblical foundation through a daily Chapel/Bible class.

Education is the key to eliminating gender inequality, to reducing poverty, to teaching sustainability, to preventing needless deaths and illness, to fostering hope and peace.

HURRICANE IRMA

Many are keeping an eye on the current updates regarding HURRICANE IRMA. John and Velvet are currently in the States and are also watching, praying prayers of protection for friends and students.
Yes, Irma is expected to affect many in the Caribbean including the Dominican Republic.
We are thinking of all in the path of Irma, but especially of our friends we call family in the Dominican Republic. While those in the US have an option to evacuate, we know that you on the islands do not have this choice. Our prayers are going up for your protection and provision, as you prepare and plan out safety measures.  It is expected that the northern part of the Dominican Republic will be affected late tonight (Thursday) by Irma, bringing much rain and wind to the region.
Work is in the process on a foundation today for a classroom addition at one of the local Haitian churches.  The missions team members are hoping cement trucks will make it out today. If not, the footers that have been dug and prepared, will be flooded with dirt and mud. The trucks may not come as drivers have received orders that they need to finish early and find shelter for their trucks and equipment. Schools will close today.Teachers, workers, and students are all with family making preparation for the impending storm conditions.  This storm will greatly affect many of the Haitian student's families since the parents work in the fields, on construction or road crews, have private goods/produce stands along the roadways and thoroughfares.

Mission team volunteers serving and living in La Vega, have made decisions to spend the next couple of days in concrete structures. Most of the volunteers live in masonry homes with concrete roofs.
Many of the churches in the Dominican Republic are on prayer alert!

Give no thought for tomorrow ... but what about two months from now?

We are often reminded that we are not to give thought of tomorrow, yet much of what we do is plan and prepare months ahead.    We are designed to think of our future, to grow and mature, have a career, perhaps marry and have children.  We also are to give thought to our eternal destination.

As educators, we do take time to plan ahead.  This allows us to embrace today and be adaptable to schedule changes.

School has started and we are grateful for the school supplies that have been donated.  Presently we are planning ahead for Christmas and second semester supplies.
Second semester supplies are arriving and monies being donated to purchase teacher aids and materials for school administrators and instructors.  It is going to be an awesome school year.

Christmas spirit is in the air. Christmas shoe boxes and gift items are being packed and readied for shipment.

This photo (to the right) shows some items purchased with donated funds.  We also use donated funds to purchase items in the Dominican Republic.  This helps build and maintain the local economy.  It is great to be able to help families of our students by shopping at local shops in La Vega.

This does not happen without your faithful support and willingness to help.  The students want you to know they are grateful!
